Banding Together

Jun 03, 2020

“With all due respect, sir, I believe this is gonna be our finest hour.” – Apollo 13

In uncertain times, it’s more important than ever that communities stand together. At The Cliffs, we banded together, made changes, got creative and then made some more changes so we could continue to offer our members as much normalcy as possible during this difficult time. We think it worked!

Our carefully constructed calendar of events that were laid out for the year had to change. Those entertaining events that embossed our hearts in the past could not be held in their typical fashion to protect our members and staff. Devastated but not deterred, our teams began to brainstorm different approaches to the calendar to make you fall in love with The Cliffs all over again. We wanted to show our caring side and give members refuge to ride out the storm while continuing to give our members unforgettable memories.

The Tackle Box Boat-In at The Lakehouse at The Cliffs at Keowee Vineyards was a huge hit. The Food & Beverage team served up boxed dinners for dockside pickup – complete with smoked trout dip, shrimp cocktail, chicken wing lollipops, lobster sliders, and strawberry shortcake parfait – along with a live concert featuring Shawn James. There also was the “progressive wine dinner to go,” the brainchild of Francis Turck, Executive Chef at The Cliffs.

Golf, no doubt, became more of a sanctuary as the weather began to warm up. And the numbers showed, despite the sometimes rain drenched fairways. Last month (April 2020) we had 1,500 rounds played at The Cliffs at Glassy alone, which is phenomenal, especially considering the past historical average for the month of April is less than 1,000 rounds. Kudos to all who work in maintenance and the grounds crews for keeping our seven courses in top shape.

Our members also continued to be good samaritans by speeding up philanthropic campaigns, making masks, and delivering Meals on Wheels. We can’t wait for you to read our in depth story about this topic in the next issue of Cliffs Living.

When the going got tough, we banded together. Most importantly, our service and commitment to serving our members never wavered. It never will.
